I was browsing some blogs and Pinterest when I saw this Cabled Beanie, version 2 hat that I really wanted to make. Stephanie from All About Ami designed it and I thought it was so creative and eye catching. She also designed the Cabled Slouchy Beanie, which has the detailed instructions on how to create the cabled design.
This was my first time ever creating crochet cables and I have to say it wasn’t too difficult and I felt so proud of my work when I finished my hat. Sure I screwed up the hat twice and had to undo half a day’s work, but it was worth it in the end to get a perfect looking hat. It’s very warm too.
Stephanie designed the hat to see if she could use one skein of Vanna’s Choice yarn. I completed 16 rows of the pattern to fit my head, but had to purchase a second skein of yarn to complete the 16th row. I used the color Barley, which I noticed was a patterned yarn that had 145 yards, while a solid color like Linen had 170 yards. So if you really want to use only one skein of yarn then you might consider picking a solid color with more yardage. I didn’t mind purchasing two because I love this color and can use the other skein for another idea.
It was so much fun to see the cables taking shape.
I purchased the faux fur pom from Michaels. It was actually a key chain, but it matched perfectly with my yarn. A big thank you to Stephanie for the idea.
Here is the hat all completed. I love it!
